Plein Air Painters of Idaho are dedicated to promoting on location painting among its members and other artists state wide at scenic locations that depict an environmentally unique ecosystem and historic places.

We are committed to promoting the natural beauty of Idaho via visual arts and thereby increasing the quality of life, economic development and community resources throughout the state by creating a Plein Air Painting Museum.

Plein Air Painters of Idaho (PAPI) is a group of artists who strive to capture a moment in time by painting on location, "alla prima," from life. The varied style of its members loosely captures the essence of Idaho's vast canyon lands, high deserts, valleys, lakes and streams and native prairies still wild at heart. Our work brings environmental awareness of the needs of people, habitat and ecosystem conservation by depicting the vulnerability of these areas and tracks changes resulting from development. Our images offer a documentary of the fragile interdependence of bio diversity and man's impact upon that structure in an effort to share the beauty that is Idaho's wild places.

Touring art exhibits resulting from such paint outs will serve as a "museum without walls" to be shared with communities within the state and represent our state in exchange exhibits nationally and internationally. The exhibits will foster greater cultural and environmental understanding within the arts and promote cultural tourism world wide.

These exhibits will be funded by sponsorships and organizational partnering among art communities, businesses, foundations and grants. A formal museum to house the permanent collection and host exchange exhibits from other plein air painters is currently being planned. Further funding of that nonprofit venture will be the direct of museum tours, exhibits exchanges, workshops, gallery sales, philanthropic gifts, fundraisers and community program development.
